Supporting the local community
Once again Concorde Copiers is sponsoring a major event at Powderham Castle near Exeter. The grounds of Powderham Castle will echo to the thunder of cavalry hooves, the roar of artillery fire and the crack of musket volleys as the english civil war society stages it's major muster for 2009 and re-enacts the Battle of Powderham in August.
The English Civil War Society is made up of the King's Army and the Roundhead Association and it is expected that over one thousand troops together with cavalry and artillery will take to the field when royalist troops defend the caste from an attack by the parliamentary army.
There will be a series of events throughout the day with drill and weaponry displays, plus a large living history encampment where visitors can see for themselves exactly how the soldiers and camp followers lived during the tumultuous campaigns of the english civil war.
To complete a perfect day out there will also living history displays in the castle itself, depicting various aspects of seventeenth century life, with plenty of "hands on" opportunities for both adults and children
